A reputation built on independent certifications, not claims

Trusted by the world's largest restaurant operators, the R-102 system has earned its reputation the same way it earns its certifications: through rigorous, independent testing. With a world-class history of third-party verification, it's the benchmark other systems are measured against. The system protects:

  • Cooking equipment such as fryers, griddles, range tops, broilers, char-broilers and woks
  • Areas associated with ventilating equipment, including hoods, ducts, plenums and filters
  • Auxiliary grease extraction equipment

BSI certified to the EN 17446 standard

In today's market, any restaurant fire suppression system can claim EN 17446 compliance. In many cases, that claim is based on partial configurations or isolated test results, not a complete, independently certified system.

BSI is an authorised, independent testing body. It awards its Kitemark only to systems that pass thorough multi-phase testing and sustain compliance through ongoing factory audits and surveillance. Few systems have earned that certification. R-102 is one of them, verified as a complete system, including its appliance, hood, duct and press-fit piping.

This certification lets specifiers know R-102 has clear installation boundaries, assured performance and reduced risk at design, approval and sign-off stages.

Before specifying any system, check that it carries a current, publicly accessible certificate from an authorised testing body, that its manual lists EN 17446-certified designs for every appliance it covers and that it meets EN 16282-7 requirements.

Learn more about R-102 System's EN 17446 certification—it meets top standards from NFPA, UL, and EN through tough, independent testing, giving it a level of trust other systems just can’t match.

Benefits

Extremely effective agent

ANSULEX low pH liquid agent quickly suppresses grease fires, minimizes re-flash and cleans up easily with soap and water while being non-toxic and gentle on surfaces.

Cartridge-operated reliability

A separate propellant cartridge ensures rapid discharge – even in challenging conditions – for greater reliability, performance and lower risk of leakage compared to stored pressure systems.

Global distribution and support network

The R-102 system is backed by one of the largest networks of distributors in the industry, with qualified and trained technicians who respond quickly to get a system back online.

World-class fire suppression testing

The system meets stringent standards and approvals, including UL 300, NFPA 96 and NFPA 17A, as well as EN 17446 and EN 16282-7 – while complying with AHJ local requirements.

Flexible design options

Choose from an appliance-specific design or overlapping layout that creates a continuous zone of protection for a group of appliances better suited to ever-adapting kitchens.

Fusible link temperature options

Temperature-rated fusible links activate over specific heat thresholds for precision actuation while reducing the risk of delayed response or false actuation.

Extinguishing Test of Deep Fat Fryer EN 17446: Section 7.2.2
The EN 17446 standard sets forth stringent criteria for kitchen fire extinguishing systems, encompassing a wide range of safety measures designed to protect both life and property. To become an EN 17446 approved kitchen extinguishing system, R-102 system underwent a unified, multiple-phase process in which its fire-extinguishing capability was vigorously tested on numerous grease-vapour-producing appliances.

Extinguishing Test of Range Top (Frying Pan) EN 17446: Section 7.2.4

To pass the range test, R-102 system had to extinguish the flames and not allow re-ignition of the grease for 20 minutes.

Extinguishing Test of Range Top (Pot) EN 17446: Section 7.2.4

After both auto-ignition and grease temperature exceeded 363 C, the fire continued to burn for two minutes until R-102 system was manually actuated.

Extinguishing Test of Griddle EN 17446: Section 7.2.3

Following full surface flames, 60 seconds had to pass after free-burn, then the heat source was disconnected, and the R-102 system actuation sequence began.
